Toronto beyond Etobicoke is outside my home zone, and I still come. Etobicoke has no travel fee. Downtown, North York and East York carry a flat $99 for the drive, which comes off once the job reaches $600. Scarborough is a longer drive at $199, which comes off at $1,200. The fee is written into the quote before you agree to anything.
Downtown and midtown driving is constant stopping, and the Gardiner, the Don Valley Parkway and the 401 add hard stops from speed, with winter salt on top. All of it works pads, rotors and caliper slides harder than a quiet commute.

What the fee means for a brake job
Pads and rotors on one axle are $300 to $400 on most cars, so in downtown, North York and East York the $99 sits on top: $399 to $499 in all (Scarborough adds $199 instead). Both axles are $550 to $600 on most cars, which is right at the $600 line where the fee comes off, and your quote shows whether it applies to your car.
Etobicoke is the exception. It is inside the home zone, so a brake job there has no travel line at all. If you are close to the boundary, send the address or the postal code and the quote will say which side of the line you are on. The Etobicoke areas have their own pages: Mimico, Long Branch, Alderwood, the Kingsway and Rexdale.
