Five years, everything included. Then nothing is.

Genesis gave you the best ownership arrangement sold in Canada: five years of warranty, five years of free scheduled maintenance, and a valet who took the car away and brought it back done. Every piece of that ends together at 5 years or 100,000 kilometres. The habit it built, service that comes to your driveway, does not have to end with it. That habit is literally my business.

Where your car stands today.

MY2021 and older Genesis are past the cliff now, and it is the sharpest one in the market: comprehensive warranty, powertrain warranty, complimentary maintenance and valet service all expire on the same day. Most owners have never paid a service invoice or stood in a service line. The next chapter either happens at dealer rates, or at your house at mine.

The amber line marks where this page's headline cohort sits today. Kilometre caps usually arrive before the year marks for GTA commuters, so real coverage often ends left of the bar.

Comprehensive warranty5 years / 100,000 km
PowertrainThe same 5 years / 100,000 km
Complimentary scheduled maintenanceThe same 5 years / 100,000 km, ends with everything else
At-home valet serviceEnds with the care plan. The at-home part is replaceable.

These are the standard Canadian terms for the brand. The clock starts at the original in-service date, not the model year, and the kilometre cap usually arrives first for commuters. Your booklet is the final word. Run your exact dates in the checker.

What five pampered years were quietly saving up

A five-year-old Genesis is a healthy car arriving at its first real spending phase, and the care plan’s ending makes the arrival feel more dramatic than it is. The brakes come first. A G70 or GV80 is a heavy, genuinely quick machine, and by 80,000 to 110,000 kilometres the factory pads and rotors are finishing their first life. On the performance fitments the parts are serious hardware, which is why the first dealer brake quote lands so hard on people who have never seen any quote at all.

The engines enter their seep years on schedule. The 2.5 turbo and the 3.3 twin turbo both begin showing a faint valve-cover film past 80,000 kilometres, a shine under the cover edge and a warm-oil smell after a highway pull, long before anything drips. Caught at the film stage it is a gasket appointment. Ignored for two years it migrates onto mounts and connectors and multiplies itself.

The rest of the list is ordinary and honest: the original battery reaching its natural end between years four and six, turbo-spec plugs coming due on the interval, and the first polite clunks from suspension bushings that have carried two tonnes over GTA frost heaves since delivery. Nothing exotic. Nothing early. Just a well-built car crossing into the years where ownership has a maintenance line again.

Here is the part that matters: you have been trained for five years to expect service to come to the car, not the car to service. That expectation is correct. Keep it.

The real list, with honest numbers

What post-plan Genesis owners book me for. Standard fitments price from my published card; the performance and Brembo setups get their flat number quoted per car, before any work, always.

  • Brakes, standard fitments

First full pads-and-rotors service on a heavy, quick car. Quality components, torqued and bedded, about ninety minutes per axle at your house.

    $350–$700 per axle installed
  • Brakes, performance and Brembo fitments

Bigger hardware, model-specific parts, same driveway. I quote these flat per exact car so there are no surprises in either direction.

Flat quoted per car, ask me
  • Valve cover seep, four cylinder

The faint film past 80,000 km. Gasket and tube seals done at the shine stage, before the oil starts travelling.

    $250–$500 installed
  • Valve cover seep, V6 both banks

The twin-turbo version, rear bank included. More teardown, same principle: fix it while it is a film.

    $500–$900 installed
  • AGM battery, years four to six

The original battery’s natural end. Correct start-stop spec, installed and registered, forty-five minutes.

    $350–$650 installed
  • Suspension bushings and arms

The first clunks over frost heaves. Complete arms with fresh hardware, per corner, and the luxury-car silence comes back.

    $350–$800 per arm, pairs $650–$1,400
  • Turbo-spec spark plugs

On the interval, exact heat range and gap. Cheap as scheduled maintenance, expensive as a misfire investigation.

    $300–$600 installed

Ranges are the published Cars With Fares price card, the same one on the pricing page. They are market context, not a quote. The flat number for your exact car is agreed before any work, and it does not move afterward.

Your first year after the plan, done right

  • Get the brakes measured before you feel anything. First-life pads on a heavy car end quickly once they start ending, and measuring is free information.
  • Flashlight under the engine cover twice a year for the valve-cover shine. The film stage is a small appointment. The drip stage brings friends.
  • If the battery is original and the car is past year four, put replacement on your calendar rather than waiting for a February morning to decide for you.
  • Keep the maintenance rhythm the plan used to keep for you: the intervals in the booklet did not end, only the subsidy did.
  • Start the file. Five years of dealer records deserve a continuation, and every visit I make writes the next dated, kilometre-stamped entry automatically.

Keeping the valet feeling without the valet pricing

What Genesis actually sold you for five years was the absence of errands: the car got cared for and your day did not stop. Every dealer alternative now on your doorstep involves a service line, a shuttle and a rate card written for people who will not question it. I am the third option, and it is the one shaped exactly like what you are used to. You pick a two-hour window online, I arrive at your driveway or your office parking spot, the work happens where you can watch it, and the price was agreed before I touched the car.

And the honest boundary, stated up front: if a diagnosis ever points deep into the twin-turbo V6, the kind of job that needs a hoist and an engine bay half-disassembled, I tell you exactly that and exactly where I would take it. What you get from me every time is the true answer first. That was the one thing the valet never brought.

Questions owners actually ask.

  • Did the warranty, the maintenance and the valet really all end at once?

Yes. Genesis Canada bundles all three into the same 5 year, 100,000 km term. It is the most generous ownership plan in the market, and its ending is the sharpest cliff anywhere: full coverage and full pampering one day, dealer rates the next. This page exists for that second day.

  • I have literally never paid for car service. What should the numbers look like?

Smaller than the first dealer invoice suggests. Standard brake service runs $350–$700 per axle installed. A four-cylinder valve cover gasket is $250–$500. A proper AGM battery is $350–$650 in. The performance fitments cost more and get a flat quote per exact car. What none of it should ever look like is a mystery total revealed after the fact.

  • Is servicing outside Genesis a problem now?

Not at all. With the factory coverage finished there is nothing left to protect, and even during coverage Canadian rules allow any qualified mechanic to perform the scheduled maintenance as long as it is documented. From here forward the only thing that matters is that the work is done right and written down. I do both.

  • The GV80 brake quote from the dealer was over $2,000. Is that real?

For the parts they price and the rate they charge, likely yes. It is also not the only real number. Standard GV80 fitments fall inside $350–$700 per axle installed with quality components. If yours carries the bigger performance hardware, I quote that exact configuration flat, in writing, before the wheels come off. Then you decide with real information.

  • There is a faint oil smell after highway drives but the dipstick is full. Ignore it?

No, but do not fear it either. That is the valve-cover film stage, the earliest and least costly moment to fix a seep. The level will not move for a long time; the oil is going onto the engine, not out of it. An appointment now at $250–$500 on the four cylinder beats the multi-part version two winters from now.

  • Do you come to an office parking garage?

Regularly. Anywhere the car sits still for two hours inside Mississauga, Oakville, Milton, Brampton or Etobicoke works: driveway, office lot, condo visitor parking with clearance. You book the window online and the errand simply does not exist in your day, which is the exact experience you have had for five years.

Out of warranty, not out of options.
